I want to survive this world that keeps trying to destroy me.
Oh my god. How to begin talking about this magnificent book?
I can’t believe this book exists, that it was written by an actual human being (hello Leigh) and it ACTUALLY exists. It’s just too good.
It’s no secret that Leigh’s writing is a bit dense to get through, in the best way because her writing is very unique. I felt the same when I read Six of Crows and I think because this book is actually adult and more dark the writing is even more dense but it was not a negative thing, in fact in made me devour this book more slowly, more attentive, and more fascinated at each turn of the page. There are so many amazing paragraphs, descriptions and phrases I’ve highlighted across this book, and I want ot cherish them and hold on the them forever.
Alex is the “unlikable” type of character and oh god I adored her. She is so fractured and lost and alone and I don’t know there is still a fierceness about her that is completely dazzling. I respect her a lot, she is so strong. Also damn girl those tattoos are EVERYTHING.
I love how Leigh managed to write a dark academia book (because no I won’t deny that it is one) but still make it her own by adding the fantasy elements, and oh how intriguing everything is. My curiosity was racing through all this book, it was enthralling and compelling and I loved every minute of reading it.
And the plot twist!! I didn’t know for sure if there was going to be one or not but oh yeah there was. I can’t wait for the second book.
This book captivated me and made me forget about the real world. It transported me deeply into it’s world and received me there with open arms. I wish I could stay forever.
